'Watercolour is often seen as something that must be laid down once, with decision - an unchangeable feast. This doesn't suit my way of image-making. I have always needed the freedom to make changes, to adapt, and to respond to what is emerging as I paint. I allow myself to take many liberties with watercolour, which I find to be a beautiful and versatile medium, brush marks and quality of line so responsive to pressure, and to the consistency of the medium.  I enjoy experimenting with different types of image making in watercolour. I do not want the medium to dictate the kind of images I can make. I love the complicated, the intertwined, the bold and vibrant: I like to create something perhaps a little inscrutable. As such, I have learnt to push at what could be the limitations of the medium in order to achieve the often complex images I love.'
