The Peffery Canal
To some it's an eye sore, even a rubbish dump. A place abandoned by the past. A Victorian relic of a bygone industrial era that never quite took off.
But the canal is still alive. Reclaimed by wildlife, it's sanctuary to nature. To people, it goes from the pedestrian to the existential. It's a dog walk, a shortcut, a Saturday morning escape. It's a way out and a way in. A place of possibility.
In the year that Dingwall celebrates 800 years of being a Royal Burgh, Han Fraise will present a journey along 'The Peffery Canal' past and present, as she follows its route from the centre of her hometown to the estuary.
This exhibition is both heartfelt, with memories from Han's childhood to present day, and highly imaginative. There are amazing bird, fish and mammal willow and paper sculptures hanging from the ceiling, a rusty old Tomahawk bike sticking out of the reeds, an interactive day and night scene to play with and even a railway crossing phone box where you can hear a song call 'Dig me a River' which local band Stoorie Foot wrote for the exhibition. This is Han's first ever exhibition, and highly recommended.
