Snow Poppies - £325 by Marjory Tait

Snow Poppies - £325
Original watercolour and pencil. Framed size 50cm W x 53.5cm H. Image size 30.5cm W x 29cm H. Wooden frame with white wash, double mounted in white with green coloured insert.

An original pencil drawing of a leopard, surrounded by a Celtic art style border formed from the stems of blue poppies, by Marjory Tait of Highland Celtic Art.

I have several Meconopsis in my garden and it seemed fitting to match them up with an image of a Snow Leopard. Short lived, but stunning, rosette leaves bring forth large bright blue poppies that do better in northern areas than elsewhere in the UK, where the cooler, wetter climate suits them. Described by RHS as ‘hardy’ and ‘difficult’! Snow leopards are noted for having evolved to live in some of the harshest conditions on the planet. Their spots are also described as ‘rosettes’, so the links between these two subjects makes sense.

In this work the colours of the poppies are reflected in the leopards eye, thinking about it’s Himalayan home.

Image size 30.5cm W x 29cm H. White-washed wood frame. Glazed. Double mount; white with green. Overall size 50cm W x 53.5cm H.
