A Fragment of Paradise: Jane Harlington

9 April - 26 May 2026
I realise that time and time again it is in the ordinary moments of the everyday that Paradise may be found….
This project began initially with the intention of publishing a series of garden journals which I started during Covid. However in the course of writing and assembling thoughts and ideas the concept expanded and includes reflections on life, most especially the challenges of creating a garden from scratch on the west coast of the Outer Hebrides, along with the mental resilience required. I touch briefly on our arrival here in 2001 when our home was derelict and the environment bleak. During these years my boys have grown into men with homes of their own and my granddaughter, Eliza came to live here, aged 2 with her parents, a dog, two horses and two guinea pigs.. we shared a space for 18months! Despite hardships and at times financial scarcity we have flourished, established a studio, The Blue Pig and of course the garden. I realise that time and time again it is in the ordinary moments of the everyday that Paradise may be found….this exhibition and my book endeavour to share such insights .
