This work is inspired by the colours and shapes of the hills, deep peat and bog pools that make up ‘The Flow Country’ in Caithness and Sutherland. Made from one of nature’s most friendly fibres - natural, biodegradable and renewable wool from British mills. A complex weave design, each weft thread carefully hand placed to create the shapes of the landscape. A mixture of traditional floor loom weaving with a shuttle and tapestry techniques, born from experimentation. This wall hanging has taken 4 weeks to make. Handweaving is a slow, careful, methodical process of craftsmanship. My designs are born from the time it takes to study and observe nature and the landscape, through to the process of designing on computer, then threading hundreds of yarns onto the loom before weaving. It’s an on-going conversation between me, the landscape and the artwork.
This artwork is hand crafted, please handle with care. It is designed to hang on the wall and be a decorative textile only. Avoid moisture and any rough surfaces that may catch the fibres. Use a soft feather duster to brush away any build-up of dust.
